A home phone.
For their world.
TokTokkie is a South African family project developing TokBox: a screen-free home phone for children aged 4 to 12, connected to a closed network of parent-approved friends and family.
The plan is simple: connect to home Wi-Fi, let parents approve contacts in the companion app, and give children a way to make their own calls.
In development. The hardware, app and network are being developed. Images show the proposed design; pricing and launch dates are not confirmed.

A few little details
Good questions.
Clear answers.
What are TokTokkie and TokBox?
TokTokkie is a South African family project developing a closed voice network for children and the people their parents approve. TokBox is the screen-free home phone being designed to use that network.
Who is TokBox intended for?
We are designing TokBox for children aged 4 to 12, during the years before a smartphone. The idea began with our own seven-year-old and his wish to call friends and family independently.
How would parents approve contacts?
The planned companion app would let parents approve who can call and be called, link households with mutual parent approval, and set quiet hours. These controls are part of the intended product and are still in development.
Can it call ordinary phone numbers or emergency services?
No. The intended network connects approved TokBoxes and the TokTokkie app. It is not designed to call ordinary mobile or landline numbers, or emergency services.
What connection would TokBox need?
The intended product uses home Wi-Fi and an internet connection. Hardware, power requirements and power-backup options are still being developed.
Could grandparents and other family members join in?
Yes, that is the plan: approved relatives would use the TokTokkie app or another TokBox. App availability and device details are still being developed.
Is TokBox available to buy in South Africa?
Not yet. TokTokkie is in development, starting in South Africa. Pricing, launch dates and availability are not confirmed. The images show the proposed design, and this website does not accept orders or collect waitlist registrations.
